The last few nights I’ve gotten a good start on the body of the Rebecca 31 “ribs and cables sweater”:
The pattern repeats on both sides. Doing it in the round feels like slower progress now, but I know in the long run it will be quicker! If it looks tiny for a person-sized sweater to you, you’d be right! The correct gauge requires the ribs to be stretched nearly flat, which also matches the sweater pictured in the magazine. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will all work out – I want the fit to be very snug.
I had a boo-boo moment when I went to start the chart. I realized that the “RS” of the yarn I had been knitting up in the round had the opposite placement of k and p stitches to work the pattern…especially noticeable by the 4-stitch-wide panels beside the center motif. These needed to be purl and as I was knitting they were knit. The set up to the ribbing pattern clearly says K4 at these intervals, but because I did this in the round working the pattern on the WS isn’t just a matter of flipping it over. I flipped my knitting inside out, and to close the gap I did a wrap and turn at the start of the row. I picked up the wrap on the following round. I did this in the purl stitches that will lay on the side and I hope it’s barely noticeable. But at least this way I didn’t have to re-do the bottom ribbing.
Back to cabling fun!
Mmmm. Cables. Looks great so far!
Glorious cables and it looks divine in that color. That pinky rose is going to look gorgeous on you. You always have the best fix-its; I look forward to one day reading your compilation of handy tips and tricks. 😉
Beautiful!!!!! I 2nd the request for a compliation of tricks!!
I love that color! at least with the ribbing you can control how much it gets blocked to ensure that it’s fitted. That’s going to be a wardrobe classic!!
Brilliant fix! I’m sure it won’t be noticeable at all. The sweater looks gorgeous so far. 🙂
What a great fix!! I probably would’ve ripped it all out & started over! No wonder you get so much knitting completed so quickly!
It’s going to be SOOO pretty!
It’s looking wonderful so far Jillian! I love the color, too bad pink isn’t my color.
