I could hear that song going through my head all day yesterday rushing to get everything packaged and in boxes. I even had a couple hours of marathon knitting in the morning to finish something I decided at the last minute I wanted to be an, in my case, xmas gift.
So the LAST two holidays FO’s are here for your viewing pleasure. In both cases the pics were taken after dark with our poor indoor lighting, so they are not the bestest!
Hello Yarn Felted Mini Tote
Pattern: Felted Mini Tote from Hello Yarn
Yarn: Cascade 220 in Paprika (less than one skein)
Needles: US 10 Denise
Size: Mini – about 8 inches X 7 inches (glasses for scale)
Modifications: None.
Thoughts: This was fun and quick, although a bit more mini than I had originally planned! I don’t yet know how to do intarsia so I didn’t add a skull or other cool design. Maybe next year.
Chunky Cap and Mitts
Pattern: My own – a basic beanie with garter stitch band and cabled fingerless mittens
Yarn: Cascade 128 Tweed Color 621 (less than 2 sleins)
Needles: US 10 Denise
Size: Average ( I didn’t measure before wrapping)
Modifications: Nothing unusual.
Thoughts: This yarn was lovely. Smooth and soft but very cushy once knitted up.
And one almost-FO, the Bea Ellis headband. The outside:
If you look very closely you’ll see I duplicated one of the rows, near the top of the pattern. Seeeee:
I didn’t notice it until I was completed with all the wool knitting and had reattached the cotton the finish the lining. Obviously, I decided to leave it. From a distance I don’t think it’s all that noticeable. Also, I did this mostly to learn fair isle, and it is a great surprise to me that I have something remotely wearable. So I figured I’d quit while I was ahead. There, I think I rationalized that enough, don’t you think?
And as promised, I shall bare all, I mean, umm, the floats:
My trusty Rowan Steam n’ Press did a dandy job evening things out and coaxing the stitches to bloom nicely. Love that thing. Every time I use it, at least once I say “this thing is the shiznit”!
Now that holiday knitting is officially over, I almost don’t know what to do with myself. I find myself stalled by too many choices!! Beautiful patterns. Beautiful yarn. But where to start?? Does this happen to you?
yeah, it happens to me; thus i have not yet even re-learned how to knit!!!
your FO’s are so outstanding; on occasion i peruse other knitblogs and i think your Perfectionism (with a capital P!) keeps you from realizing how very talented and successful you have been in this your 1st (!?) year of knitting…..even my untrained eye can see less than stellar results on other sites, but your attention to detail is remarkable; your stitches are always in perfect tension & spacing, everything always looks so professionally done; i was wearing and closely examining my lovely bamboo yarn scarf this weekend at a party, which was even one of your earliest garments, and the spacing, etc is flawless, i can’t imagine how you do it. so, silly little sister, please try not to be so hard on yourself, it’s all fantastic! one of my favorite things about wearing your gifts is being able to say “my sister made it for me!” every time i get complimented on whatever it is, which i do, without fail, every single time! xoxoxo julie
Your fair isle is amazing. I can’t believe it is your first time! It makes for a nice headband, and even with the close up I couldn’t tell which line you doubled.
Nice job!
Great FOs!!! Congrats on finishing your holiday knitting. I LOVE your Bea Ellis headband!
Your headband looks great! I hope my hat turns out just as nice as yours.
Great job with all your finished objects. Yeah! You’re finished with your holiday knitting!
Wow, I love the headband . A lucky somebody is going to very happy. I wish you a Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy many glorious frangos!
Wow, I’m very impressed by all your holiday FOs. Congratulations, and enjoy knitting for yourself now!
You’ve been busy, I love the head band and the fingerless mitts. Did you find the fair isle difficult??
Thanks alot – now I’ve got that song going through MY head! Great FO pics. Just think of the extra row on the headband as a little design feature. It makes it a little less symmetrical. Leigh Radford would approve.
