The Summer Knitty is up today! I think it’s a great edition. Based on my Ravelry friend activity, Shetland Shorty seems to be the clear favorite. It was certainly mine. I also like Thira, Helena, Spring Forward, and Ziggy.
Speaking of online knit mags, I am very excited about the upcoming Twist Collective. Based on the contributors, what I’ve heard some contributors say about it, and the “sneak peeks”, I am chomping at the bit! Click on “advertise” to see the media kit and more peeks.
All these patterns, and I’m still working on Big Pink. Looks much like it did a few days ago. But, I showed the start to T and it got the seal of approval! Hooray!
Knit Travels
Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of traveling with some knitting group peeps to the Danish village of Solvang north of Santa Barbara. Madge, Mary, Annette, Pam, Linda and I were mainly headed for Village Spinning and Weaving, but many other treats were had as well! I made a beeline for a salt water taffy shop after lunch
I got a whole pound! The weather was wonderful, wamer than expected but with a breeze, and the area wasn’t too crowded yet. I had camnesia all day, but some of the gals have posted pics!
I was restrained in the procurement department, and nabbed only a skein of The Fibre Company’s unbelievable Khroma in the colorway Aegean. So fitting.
Aeeeeegean
Knit Mail
It’s been an excellent mail week! I received a Ravelry “veggie bag” I was lucky to chance upon in stock. It’s out again right now, but I’m sure they’ll get more in. It’s great the way the inventory stats are right there!
I love it. It’s super soft, a perfect size, and very comfortable to carry. And organic cotton. What could be better?
**Yarn Tree Yarn Club SPOILER ALERT**
I got the last installment in The Yarn Tree’s inaugural Sock for All Seasons Club:
It’s Panda yarn dyed in the colorway Capri by Patti Bobonich of Wolf Creek Wools. Linda also included a moth repellant sachet she sells at her shop, a lovely and thoughtful addition. As much as I’ve liked every installment, I have to admit that this isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t think it’s fugly, just not my style. A bit too colorful, a bit too primary colors. But, you never know. Maybe this is perfect for a baby something or other!
More Miscellany
So I waltz into the office Monday morning, and this is outside my window:
I’m on the 4th floor, BTW. Eek. They were apparently replacing the water tank on the roof. Of a 13-story building. Thanks to the June gloom, there is no view of the foothills.
As a small political aside, I’ve mentioned before I’m for Obama. I would have voted democratic either way, but mostly I’m just glad it’s decided. I was very concerned about the cohesiveness of the party and its ability to mount a successful campaign.
But I wanted to share a little funny thing. So the other night I’m out on a walk, I see some political signs about the neighborhood and had just been perusing CafePress for some Obama paraphernalia for the car, and this pops into my head:
“M’Obama, Mo’ Better”
Go figure. I have no idea where this came from. I think it must just have been the first letters of his name being “o-b”. Who knows

You should send Obama your slogan! I bet they’d run with it!
I’m loving the Summer Knitty too!! So fun! And I am just itching to see what the Twist Collective will be
I love Kate Gilbert and know she’ll create a fantastic magazine!
Thanks for the tip off about the new Knitty! and I have the same cotton Rav bag – so fun
…and after I recently worked with some of the Fibre Company yarn, I have to say that I am in love with their stuff. Completely. Beautiful yarn!
Sounds like quite the fun excursion! Salt water taffy – mmm! I’m looking forward to the Twist Collective, too – sounds great from what I’ve heard so far. ps: Nice slogan!
That Aegean colorway is gorgeous. Do you know what you’re going to make with it? Fingerless mitts would be pretty. I like the veggie bag too. I hadn’t seen it before.
Busy as usual, I see! You always have the scoop on all knitting-related internet stuff
I took a look at Knitty yesterday and I love Helena, (for Scout of course), and Gigi, though I don’t know if I could pull it off. Seems to be a good issue.
Your trip to Solvang sounds wonderful. I haven’t been there in years. I’m trying to convince Shawn we need to take a trip to SB this summer. Crossing my fingers!
I like Shetland Shorty too!!
The Panda Yarn is kinda’ busy. Looks like a lot of yardage though. I’ll bet you could whip up a top-down baby cardigan in no time…maybe striping it with a solid color OR making the sweater in the Panda and all trim in a solid color? I know you’ll figure out something.
Thanks again for all the fab links! You’ve kept me in the know, as far as cool design sites go
Shetland Shorty is so cute; I like it best.
Solvang!!!! I love Solvang – but instead of saltwater taffy I head for the abelskeivers (sp?) and the danish pasties. I hear that is a nice yarn shop and one day I’m going to trek up there and check it out! Shetland Shorty is very cute.
I really like a lot of the patterns in Knitty this time. Love the sock kit! Yes, you can. . .make political slogans!! I am supporting Obama, as well, and I’ve been doing a little work for him. Knitters for Obama! Mo’Better!
love the aqua yarn !!! the veggie bag is too cute..went to site and sold out !!! thought good gift !!! l and p x00xx0
I’m really bummed that I missed out on the Solvang trip! I’m glad you all had fun, though, and hopefully I can make it to the next outing. I too like the new Knitty, and Helena is going to go into my queue once I can find my printer and print it out. I’m looking forward to some good knitting time this summer!
The new Knitty didn’t really do much for me this time ’round, but that’s okay
I like your Obama slogan–you should totally send that in!
Knitty gets a thumbs up from me, too. Hmm, what did I queue? Seascape (the symmetry! squee!) and Spring Forward. (My Ravelry queue seems to be the repository of sock patterns I never make, but whatever.) Shetland Shorty is way cute.
Solvang was so much fun. Yay for wacky theme towns.
Silly bloglines never told me you posted this and I was just thinking … wow, it’s been a long time since Jillian last posted. Which, after looking at the date, it has been a long time anyway. I hope everything is okay with you.
A trip to Solvang with fiber friends sounds like so much fun. I’ll have to check out those other blogs for photos.
I love the Khroma yarn and the Ravelry bag, but I’m on the fence about your latest club shipment.
Your Obama slogan is great!
