The Spring Knitty is up! It seems like a great issue too! I must admit my nose wrinkled at Posey, but in retrospect I think that was more the bright yarn the pattern itself. There are a few cute chillin’s projects, the Salto socks and Laminaria shawl are gorgeous, the Paw Cozy is truly genius for pet walkers, and many of the garment patterns had something going too. All in all a good bunch.
Also, in case you haven’t heard about it, Knotions is a groovy new online knitting mag being developed by Savannachik.
Thank you all so much for the wonderful compliments on Starsky! I’m a tad overwhelmed. I wore it to the office on Monday, and it passed the fit test. You know, a whole day actually wearing something and finding out it droops here, needs a constant tug there, yada, yada. Not really any of that. It does need a belt adjustment every so often, because the collar/band came out a little floppy, but otherwise it was so comfortable and provided just the right amount of warmth!
I’ve made a good start on Briar Rose Bolero, using Bouton d’Or Dandy in the color Lichen, but it still looks like a blob and is not very pictureworthy. However, I am enjoying the pattern and yarn so much I suspect this will be my focus until its done, so pictures soon!
BeachKnits Brenda tagged me for the 6 things meme a spell back, and as always I have the darnedest time coming up with things. Especially factoids I haven’t used before! But here’s my go:
Post the rules on your blog. Link to the person who tagged you. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
- I have comfort TV, like comfort food. I always have some episodes of Stargate and Buffy on the Tivo. I have Firefly on DVD.
- I love watching movies, but much prefer to watch at home rather than go to the theater. No sticky floors, cranked AC, and noisy kids. (Do I sounds like a bitter old women yet?)
- Living in southern California for 8 years has made me fond of rain, especially thunderstorms.
- I’m not an uber-fan, but I have read all the Harry Potter books and watched all the movies, the last few several times. The last one was incredible!
- I prefer tea to coffee. I switched to tea several years back for health reasons (tender tummy/less caffeine) and at first I really missed coffee. But now I’ve grown to really like it better – I find there’s never a bad time for a cup of tea.
- In the last year or so, my sense of smell has started changing with the time of the month. At certain times, it’s so sensitive it’s hard to go around in public places! My doc suggested it may be neurologic changes associated with migraines/FMS. It’s not a bad thing, per se, just occasionally annoying and kind of strange, to be able to smell things you were previously unaware of.
Per my usual, I’m not going to tag anyone. This has been making the rounds, but consider yourself tagged if you want to share!
And because I don’t want a picture-less post, here’s Topaz enjoying Sunday morning on the settee with me this past weekend. A book, cup of tea, Topaz and a blankie. It was pure bliss.

be glad lil sis you are not a nurse with the smell thingee !!!! was having a bad day and this spring filled pic of kitty and sunshine just cheered this old cynic right up !!!! meow
I’m pretty happy with the new Knitty as well. More than I’ve been in a while, actually. Yay!
Sorry I missed out on the complimenting of Starsky but it truly looks great on you!
I agree with you on rainstorms. I missed them after moving to southern CA.
there is some great new stuff in Knitty – nice to see!
glad to hear Starsky passed the test – I’m sure it will become a regular in the rotation!
I hear you about the heightened sense of smell. It is one of my least favrotie pregnancy side effects. I can smell anything and everything and I work with a women who LOVES to spray her perfume. Yuck!
LOL! Topaz is really soaking in the sun. That’s very interesting about your increased sense of smell. I could imagine that there are some smells you’d rather not have intensified — at all!
Just wanted to say hi! Look at Topaz. Looks like he’s enjoying soaking up the sun. Dalton has an infection and has been spending a lot of time inside. Makes me sad because he usually loves lounging on the balcony. He’ll get better soon though.
Thanks for the links! I think there are several cute designs this round. Can’t wait to see how your Briar Rose bolero looks. I love Ysolde’s new leaf berret – but fear it wouldn’t be particularly flattering on me!
Thanks for the tip on the new online magazine, it’s looks pretty great!
I’m going to check out the new knitmag — thanks for the tip! As for the random bits, I didn’t know you were a Joss Whedon fan as well. You mention Buffy and Firefly, but you say nothing about Angel — haven’t watched it or don’t like it? just curious. (I’ve got complete sets of all 3 series and at cost per viewing, they’re going to be economical entertainment!)
I frequently find that I dismiss a pattern and then realize the pattern is fine, it’s the color of yarn they chose that I didn’t like. Looks like I’m not the only one.
That’s a great photo of Topaz.
hee – my comfort TV is X-Files…
Just found your blog from Claudi (Mr Puffy) and have added you to my feeds, it that’s ok, also to my Ravelry list. Love all your projects on there. There are a lot of designs you knit that are just my style
Starsky does look fab! It’s always nice when a knit sweater works as a garment because you never can tell until it’s done and worn.
Great choices for comfort TV! You did know the new Stargate movie Ark of Truth came out Wednesday?
I grew up here in So Cal and I adore the rain! I actually get happy when it’s gloomy outside and even happier when it rains. I wasn’t prepared for it today though. As I was leaving work, it started pouring on me. Then it hailed! Of course I parked far away and had no umbrella. I was drenched. But I saw a rainbow on my drive home, so that made up for being cold & wet.
